The Mean Green Starter's 3" tool steel driveshaft is supported at both ends by bearings. The stainless steel pinion shaft is externally splined to mate with the larger diameter, internally splined driveshaft. Even the armature in the high-speed motor is supported at each end with bearings. All totaled, there are five bearings in the motor and gear assembly.

Mean Green Starter's are compact in design to provide additional oil pan and header clearance. The starters for Ford and AMC/Jeep applications can be rotated in 20* increments to allow for better header clearance. The GM starters have dual bolt patterns for both the 12 3/4" (153 tooth) and 14" (168 tooth) flywheels.

Comments:
I bought this for my 2002 F-350 7.3 Power Stroke after researching & reading many reviews on this starter and others. Installation was very easy, took maybe 20 minutes from start to finish to R&R the starter. Two bolts hold it in, two wires to connect, and bam truck cranks like it never did before! I had replaced the starter once about 10 years ago, with a Denso and I have to say, this starter spins the engine over probably 10 times faster then the stock or the Denso! This Mean Green little bastard is a real ripper! Its only been in the truck for a few days, so I am hoping the starter lives up to its 300,000 start claim. For now though, I would highly recommend this starter as a replacement for your tired stock or aftermarket unit. As a sidenote, KT Performance had the best price on this starter with FREE shipping of anybody I could find on the net.

If you are doing the install yourself, first disconnect both Negative battery leads and isolate them by wrapping them in a rag so they don't accidentally make contact. Remove the two mounting bolts on the starter, allowing the starter to dangle by the wires. Then disconnect the main power lead and the smaller solenoid wire. Install the Mean Green Starter in reverse order, connecting batteries LAST. Job done, $$Money$$ saved!
