Description
This is the rear ring and pinion gear set for the Dana 44 axle in all 2007-18 Jeep Wrangler JK models, cut for a 4.88 ratio. It is the gear set itself, designed to restore proper gearing after a lift and larger tires drop your JK off its factory ratio.
The set uses a standard-rotation 24-spline pinion and an 8.5-inch ring gear that bolt into the factory JK rear Dana 44. Carrier break on this gear is listed at 3.73 and down, so a 4.88 ratio works with the lower-ratio carrier or the matching aftermarket carrier. Gears are machined from 8620 steel, heat treated and lapped for a smooth, quiet setup.
If you have moved up to 35-inch or larger tires, going to 4.88 gets your engine back into its usable power band for both crawling and highway driving. JK owners running heavier tires and armor are the typical buyers for this ratio.
Plan on a full bearing setup at install.
