This is the compound transmission pan gasket for a ZF8 (8HP) stamped steel pan. It seals the pan-to-case joint on the ZF 8-speed automatic and is designed to pair with PPE’s stamped steel pans.
It’s matched to PPE pan part numbers 228153xxx and 2280538xx, so it lines up with the correct bolt pattern and sealing surface. The gasket is sold individually and carries a 1-year limited warranty.
Any time you drop the pan for a fluid and filter service, or when installing one of the matching PPE steel pans, a fresh gasket is what keeps the joint dry. A hardened or nicked gasket is a common cause of a slow pan seep.
